Si Badge drops by for a chat about his RTV triumph

Posted on: January 4, 2013

Taking time out of his busy pre-Christmas schedule, the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club’s RTV champion 2012, Si Badge, popped into our Bovey Tracey base for a quick chat about his recent success in the Brookwells sponsored competition.

And it probably made a nice change of scenery for Si, who by his own admission, spends far too much of his time in our Plymouth branch repairing the damage from, “Unlucky collisions with trees,” while competing.

His success in 2012 came in a V8 powered military lightweight Landy (shown above) coupled with plenty of support from family and team-mates along the way. But Si is not resting on his laurels and the goal for 2013 is to beat his 3rd placed finish in his favourite event, the Comp Safari.

However, last year’s champion admits he is unlikely to retain the RTV title next season as his work commitments with the Royal Marines means he will probably miss a couple of events.

Despite being great fun, motor sport can be an expensive hobby, given all the trees which tend to get in the way, but Si’s had help along the way from the Royal Marines Motorsport Association who chip in to cover fuel costs to and from events and has an invaluable resource to fall back on in his dad, who keeps himself busy acting as chief mechanic on the Land Rover.

And Si took time to pay tribute to the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club, urging anyone interested to get involved, regardless of whether you own a Land Rover or not. From marshalling at competitions to social events, there really is a wide range of activities to take part in to further your passion for Land Rovers with like minded people. Here is the top three finishers for the CaDLRC’s 2012 RTV event.

1st – Si Badge

2nd – Ken Brain

3rd – Dave White.

Brookwells’ MD Jeff Dowell will be presenting Si with his trophy at the CaDLRC’s dinner and dance this month and competition starts again on the 27th of January at Hemerdon where we will once again be backing this great event.
