Which Britpart Winch Is The Right Winch For Me?

Here are some guidelines to follow when deciding which Britpart winch to purchase for your specific application.
First of all, there a few questions you need to ask before coming to a decision:
- What voltage do I require?
- What weight am I pulling?
- What vehicle is the winch being fitted to?
- What length of pull is required?
- How often will the winch be used?
- Is there a gradient (eg ramps etc)?
A winch witha capacity of 8000lbs pull and upwards is recommended if you are purchasing the winch for plant hire, vehicle recovery or transportation of loads. A similar cpacity winch is also recommended if you are going to use the winch for animal carcass recovery.
For Land Rovers and Range Rovers, a mid-range winch would be most suitable. This would have a capacity of between 8000lbs and 12000lbs, but would depend on the model of Land Rover or Range Rover you are fitting it to.
For purely leisure purposes, it is recommended that you select a lower capacity winch, around 2000lbs to 8000lbs. The applications this would be used for could include pulling boats, low trailers, smaller caravans, etc.
It is important to remember that all winches are rated based on the first layer of rope on the drum, which gives a maximum load. The pulling capacity is reduced by around 20% per layer as the rope is wound back onto the drum.
It is a good idea to consider buying some good quality recovery gear, such as a snatch block, at the same time as purchasing a Britpart winch. A snatch block will allow you to use the winch on a double line, this efeectively doubles the pulling power of the winch. You should however make note that when using a winch on a double line, the speed of the winch is roughly halved.
PLEASE NOTE: You should not use a Britpart winch to lift or move people, they are not designed for this purpose.
