Land Rover reveals all new LR2 at British International Motor Show

Land Rover’s all-new LR2 recently made its world debut at the British International Motor Show at ExCeL in London’s Docklands. The vehicle was displayed on the Land Rover show stand alongside an updated, 2007 model year Range Rover TDV8, a Range Rover Sport TDV6 and a LR3 TDV6.

The LR2 is new from the ground up, with outstanding on-road performance as well as the class-leading off-road ability expected of a true Land Rover. A dynamic design, purposeful stance, smart and spacious interior and an abundance of advanced technologies complete the package.

Technical highlights of the LR2 include:

- A new engine:
- 3.2-litre i6 petrol (233 PS / 171 kW) – 30 per cent more powerful than the outgoing V6 with 10 per cent improvement in fuel economy
- Full-time intelligent 4×4 that helps optimise traction and fuel economy
- Land Rover’ s unique Terrain Response – for easier off-road driving – heads a long list of advanced technologies, many new to the class For the 2007 model year, the Range Rover’s technologies include Land Rover’s acclaimed Terrain Response, electronic park brake and electronic rear ‘e’ differential. The improved cabin also gains extra stowage, enhanced finishes and more effective air-conditioning – plus the option of cooled front seats.

Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham, said: “We were delighted to support the British International Motor Show in London with two product debuts. The first of these products, an updated Range Rover, will be offering a balance of performance, refinement and economy that is unmatched, which we are confident will make this vehicle even more desirable.”

He continued: “The LR2 sets new standards in the sector, combining the advantages of a premium car with the attributes of a robust 4×4. We believe that no other compact 4×4 gets closer to blending these best-of-both-worlds abilities.”

The LR2 will be arriving in the Middle East in the first half of 2007. Land Rover dealers are getting geared to receive this exciting new product which will attract a whole new generation of consumers to the Land Rover brand.

Land Rover to showcase new premium SUV portfolio at Middle East International Motor Show

In a year that saw three major premium product launches- the award-winning all-new LR3, Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover for 2006 – Land Rover, the world’s only dedicated 4×4 automotive manufacturer, has continued to gain market-share and brand recognition across the region.

Driven by the success of these new models, Land Rover is forecasting a dramatic sales increase of 72% in the fourth Quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

Speaking on the positive growth, Andy Gawthorpe, Regional Managing Director for Land Rover said:

‘We had a very busy year with the launch of three new products: The new Range Rover for 2006, Range Rover Sport and the all-new LR3. These products are a reflection of our brand’s new premium 21st century strategy and we will be showcasing our entire new range at this year’s Motor Show.’

All these models have been very well received by our customers and have further strengthened our positioning in the region. Boosted by the breadth and quality of the existing product range, we are confident to lead the 4×4 segment. ‘

Visitors to the Land Rover stand will have the opportunity to view the new premium range of Land Rover products. In addition, there will also be an Autobiography Range Rover on display. Autobiography is a personalized programme that enables Land Rover customers to select their own palette of special colours, body kit, leather trim, wood veneers and other luxury features from a wide range of options.

Another attraction will be the Armoured Range Rover, a protected version of the new Range Rover loaded with features that equip this model to provide maximum passenger security against any outside threat.

‘The Land Rover brand has shown year-on-year success and now with the strong product portfolio and the consistent support and commitment of our importers, we are sure of our ongoing success and increased market share throughout the Middle East region,’ added Gawthorpe.

Woman in Land Rover G4 selection

rangerovercomp (8k image)For the first time a woman competitor has been chosen to represent South Africa – together with two men – in the Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selections.

Three days of intense competition, 30 accomplished competitors but the final three positions available to represent South Africa in the Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selections were finally decided.
The SA Selections, which ran from August 18-20, was concentrated at the Tala Game Reserve near Pietermartizburg for two days, with the final day taking place in and around the Durban city centre and the SunCoast Casino and Entertainment World ? the two distinct locations catering for the respective rural and urban elements that are a hallmark of the Land Rover G4 Challenge.

Intense mental and physical tasks throughout the competition gave the participants a chance to prove themselves and their ability to cope with extreme challenges of every kind.

According to Rob Timcke, event director for the Land Rover G4 SA Selections, the event is not simply a test of physical ability.

“Everything was done to test the competitors both mentally and physically, ensuring that they will be able to use their physical skills and mental aptitude to adapt to the challenges and the unpredictable circumstances they will face on the global event,” he said.

>Professionalism Proving the level of professionalism and calibre of people involved, many of the competitors are regular adventure racing competitors, completing up to 580 km five-day events which push the absolute boundaries of physical endurance.

South Africa’s 2003 Land Rover G4 Challenge representative, Chester Foster, was equally impressed with the competitors.

“We?ve seen some of our country?s top athletes competing over the three days, and the pedigree is unbelievable,” he said.

The G4 Challenge final, which spans four countries around the world over four weeks starting at the end of April 2006, involves the entire Land Rover product line-up, using all five nameplates.

As the newest products in the stable, the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport will feature in most of the competitive action, with selected sections using the Freelander.

The Range Rover and Defender will primarily fulfil the technical, support, media and back-up roles.

A total of 134 Land Rover vehicles will be used throughout the event.
