Loyalty Awards for Range Rover

Range Rover has been honoured in this year’s Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards ceremony held in Dearborn, Michigan.

R L Polk & Co gives these awards (which apply to the US market) in recognition of “superior owner loyalty performance”, based on whether a household which buys a new vehicle subsequently purchases or leases another one of the same make. This year, as in 2005 and 2006, the Range Rover scored top marks in the Prestige SUV class.

“We are elated that our customers are loyal to the Range Rover,” says Kevin Donovan, Market Manager for Land Rover North America. “To lead the Prestige SUV segment for three consecutive years reflects our customers’ passion for the unique driving experience provided by this award winning vehicle.”

Ford’s Land Rover wins BusinessCar awards

Land Rover has scooped two accolades for Best Small 4×4 and Best Large 4×4 in the annual BusinessCar awards, voted for by readers of BusinessCar magazine.

The all-new Freelander 2 fought off competition in one of the most hotly contested sectors to win the ‘Small 4×4’ award – an impressive eighth consecutive win for Freelander in this category since 2000. The Discovery 3 was recognised as winner of the ‘Large 4×4’ category, making this its 95th global award since launch in 2004.

Land Rover corporate operations manager, Jon Wackett commented: “Receiving both these awards from BusinessCar magazine is a fantastic endorsement of the all-round capability that Land Rover vehicles offer to the business and fleet industry. We are delighted with the result.”

Tristan Young, editor-in-chief of BusinessCar added: “BusinessCar readers voted for Land Rover in both the 4×4 categories for the combination of ability, comfort and refinement offered by the Freelander 2 and the Discovery 3. They were unmatched in either of their respective sectors.”

Land Rover is committed to addressing the challenges of climate change and since September 2006 carbon dioxide generated by Land Rover manufacturing activities and UK customer vehicle use has been balanced through an industry leading offset programme run by Climate Care.

The Freelander 2 is on-sale now at Land Rover dealerships throughout the UK, priced from £20,935 to £33,990, including the contribution to offset carbon dioxide emissions. It has already sold nearly 1,500 units in the UK, since going on sale in December.

The biggest selling model in the UK and in Europe is expected to be the TD4 manual with a combined fuel economy figure of 37.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 194g/km.

The Discovery 3 has sold nearly 30,000 units in the UK and 115,000 units globally since launch in 2004.

Land Rover Sets Global Sales Record in 2006

Land Rover has achieved a global sales record for the second year running. In 2006, the 4×4 manufacturer sold 192,500 vehicles around the world, an increase of 4 per cent (8,500 vehicles) on the previous year.

The year saw the USA become Land Rover’s largest single market with a sales increase of 3.5 per cent. Sales in the highly competitive US market were driven by the phenomenal success of the Range Rover Sport, which saw an 80 per cent growth. There was also significant progress in emerging markets like Russia, which saw its sixth successive year of growth, and the Middle East and North Africa region where sales increased by 54 per cent and 43 per cent respectively.

In the UK, sales of Range Rover Sport and Range Rover increased by 52 per cent and 12.5 per cent respectively in a year which saw the run out of Freelander, which ceased production in July. The all new Freelander 2 only went on sale in the UK in December, but still notched up nearly 900 sales in this traditionally short sales month.

Phil Popham, Land Rover’s Global Managing Director, said, “This is a fantastic achievement given we were without our volume product for most of the year and provides a firm foundation for the launch of the all new Freelander 2, a vehicle designed for a global market. We need to maintain this momentum in 2007 and continue to make progress in new markets.”

Land Rover’s modern, clean and efficient diesel engines are now dominating the UK market, accounting for 92 per cent of sales. Demand for the new TDV8 Range Rover saw diesel derivatives of the model surge by 145 per cent in the final quarter of last year.

John Edwards, Land Rover’s UK Managing Director, said, “The Range Rover is the UK’s best selling luxury car and with this new engine customers can get petrol levels of performance with a 32 per cent improvement in fuel economy.”

Sales of Range Rover Sport have exceeded 75,000 since its launch to become Land Rover’s best selling model. Discovery 3 continues to collect critical accolades with 85 international awards to date.

Buoyant US market spurs Land Rover to global sales record

Buoyant US market spurs Land Rover to global sales record Jan 9 2007.

Land Rover set a global sales record for the second year in a row in 2006, latest figures from the Solihull 4×4 special-ist show.

Volumes rose by four per cent, or 8,500 vehicles, to 192,500.

The year saw the US become Land Rover’s largest single market with a sales increase of 3.5 per cent.

Sales in the highly competitive US market were driven by the success of the Range Rover Sport, which saw an 80 per cent growth.

There was also “significant progress” in emerging markets such as Russia, which saw its sixth successive year of growth, and the Middle East and North Africa region where sales increased by 54 per cent and 43 per cent respectively, Land Rover said.

In the UK, sales of Range Rover Sport and Range Rover increased by 52 per cent and 12.5 per cent respectively in a year which saw the run out of Freelander, which ceased production in July.

The all-new Free-lander 2 notched up sales of nearly 900 despite only going on sale in December, a traditionally quiet month for motor manufacturers.

The new version will go on sale in the US, where it will be known as the LR2, in May and will be introduced into other markets throughout the world in the coming months.

Land Rover global managing director Phil Popham said of the 2006 figures: “This is a fantastic achievement given we were without our volume product for most of the year.

“It provides a firm foundation for the launch of the all new Freelander 2, a vehicle designed for a global market. We need to maintain this momentum in 2007 and continue to make progress in new markets.”

Land Rover’s updated diesel engines are now dominating the UK market, accounting for 92 per cent of sales.

Range Rover features even more refinements

While retaining many of its 2006 model-year characteristics, Land Rover’s flagship Range Rover grows more refined and become universally off-road capable for 2007. Several interior improvements and standard Terrain Response, Land Rover’s acclaimed off-road system, highlight the upgrades. An available electronic rear differential further supplements the vehicle’s tough terrain prowess.

Range Rovers almost always gain respect from onlookers on both the boulevards and back roads, so Land Rover sought to improve driver and passengers’ experiences by enhancing the interior of this luxury model.

The air-bag layout now includes seat-mounted front side-impact units, replacing the former side air bags found in the doors. A driver’s knee bolster inflates and the passenger-side frontal unit has been reworked.

Storage improves, as twin glove boxes that release electronically complement better cup holders and improved center console storage. An electronic parking brake and new gearshift lever are more driver oriented.

The emergency brake replaces a conventional lever with a simple switch that automatically disengages when the vehicle drives off. A triple layer windshield, new center-console design, better switch gear and instrument bezels and graphics have been added.

Substantial work has been invested in Range Rover’s HVAC system, yielding stronger air conditioning with better airflow characteristics and less noise. The front seats now may be cooled, in addition to heated, through the perforated center fabric. Land Rover cites a new evaporator that removes 15 percent more heat from the interior via the AC system.

While the interior crew was busy improving ergonomics and comfort, off-road specialists were infusing the big Rover with the latest 4WD technology. Terrain Response, a comprehensive system first seen in the LR3 and optional last year, arrives standard in all 2007 Range Rover models. Five distinct settings — General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand, Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl — optimize ride height, stability control, traction control, throttle response, transmission patterns, Hill Descent Control and differential strategies in order to maintain motion in the chosen mode.

Finally, a new electronic rear differential arrives standard on supercharged Range Rover models, and optionally on base HSE naturally aspirated versions. All models include an electronic center differential, but the additional rear unit further improves both off-road agility and on-road stability. Those Range Rovers with the standard 4.2-liter V-8 now get performance suspension components formerly reserved for supercharged models.

The new-for-2006 Range Rover Sport carries over mostly unchanged, although several features and options have been added for the 2007 model year. A Bluetooth-enabled Personal Telephone Integration System arrives as standard, as does one-touch operation for the front passenger’s window and a clock in the driver’s information center. Like the larger Range Rover, Sport models exist in either naturally aspirated HSE or Supercharged trim. Those models with the supercharger now receive Sirius satellite radio as standard, and the options of light cherry or dark oak interior wood accents, two types of sporty leather upholstery and exclusive 20-inch aluminum wheels.

Range Rover Sports share many of the family design characteristics, including the intersecting dual-circle headlights, front fender-mounted side vents (supercharged models) and a body-colored roof that tapers back and appears to float over the glass windows. At 7.2 inches shorter than its big brother, Range Rover Sport possesses handling characteristics not shared by Range Rover, especially considering the relatively smaller 5.3-inch drop in wheelbase that produces shorter overhangs.

Land Rover’s LR3, the volume-selling replacement for the recently retired Discovery, receives trim and equipment improvements for the new model year. A power sunroof, nine-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system and leather trim are all standard. Three-row, seven-passenger seating is included with all V-8 models, while the V-6 SE receives new aluminum wheels. The front passenger’s window includes one-touch operation, while the driver’s seat adds power lumbar adjustment. Finally, a new three-flash feature has been integrated into the turn-signal switch, allowing convenient lane changing.
