As you can probably tell the Ice Warrior doesn’t get used in anger for serious off roading or winching duties very often so when we got an emergency call from the boss the other day requesting it’s presence to winch a wood chipper up a 45 degree slope I didn’t need asking twice! We grabbed some recovery gear i.e winch pulley block (WIN7750), tree strop (ZBS1817) and two bow shackles (ZBS2073) to aid in the recovery.

Firstly we placed the tree strop around the tree so as not to damage it with the winch rope and placed the 4.75T tested bow shackle through the loops so we could attach the Superwinch pulley block.

Then we ran the rope up the hill, through the pulley block and back down to the chipper. Although the chipper didn’t look very big it was definitely heavy enough that you wouldn’t want to push it up a 45 degree slope so the winch was a very welcome accessory!

Needless to say the Superwinch Talon 9,500lb (WIN1695211) winch fitted with plasma rope pulled it up the hill with ease, in fact I’m not even sure it knew it was there!

The winch impressed me so much that I had to buy one myself! I have bought the Superwinch Tiger Shark 9,500lb to fit into my Defender winch bumper so please see our next blog for a full fitting guide.

All of the products mentioned in our blog are available to purchase from our online shop, just put the part numbers listed into our search engine facility and press go or if you have any enquiries drop us an email to or call us on 01626 833848.

We are delighted to report that members of the Brookwells team were present to help hand over the £3,200 raised by the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club’s charity RTV Event at Newnham Park in aid of St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon Aaron from our Plymouth Branch and the Ice Warrior were there to help other members from the CDLRC to hand-over the big cheque to staff.

Trevor Castle, Ken Brain, Tony Powell, Diana Mills, Jane and Gary Maunder also represented the CDLRC along with our Aaron, the Ice Warrior and two other Landies.

The annual event which this year ran on the 22-23rd of June raises money to help St Luke’s Hospice undertake a huge range of vital and tremendously caring tasks day in day out. “We have been caring for thousands of terminally ill patients for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the past 30 years and our passion and dedication to offer dignity and choice has never dwindled.” They say on their website, “Our vision is to provide the very best of care to those with a life limiting illness and support their families, whenever and wherever they need it.”

“With over £4.5million to raise each year to maintain our vital service to the local community we’re extremely grateful to all of our supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and employees who help us to keep providing free end of life care to those who need us most from across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.”

And long may this great event continue to help St Lukes preform their superb work on a daily basis. Roll on Newnham 2014!

We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and attentive aftercare here at Brookwells. We believe it’s what gives us an edge over the competitors and we’re always looking at ways to improve.

We’re just getting started so to fill a gap we’ve put a short slideshow of our Land Rover Defender, the Ice Warrior, on its trip around the South West which featured in our 2012 calendar.

And we’re expecting our Ice Warrior to feature regularly as we install all the latest releases from Terrafirma, Exmoor Trim to it, along with everything else that’s groundbreaking in in the world of Land Rover.

Like with everything we do we’re looking for you to get involved. Subscribe to our page and feel free to share your videos of off-roading, restorations, RTVs or rallies with us and if we like it, whatever it is, we might pass it on.

Not long now until the South West’s leading Autojumble for Land Rovers and other 4×4 vehicles – the ideal place to find spares and parts at greats prices. The gates open at 9:30am on Saturday August 21st.

The event will also feature 4×4 Club stands, meaning plenty of vehicles will be on show, and many specialists will have show stands such as Project Mobility (who we support), QT and Mammouth (we have some of their gear on the Ice Warrior) and the North Dartmoor Search & Rescue, amongst others.

You can find location information and more at their website here:

We’re going to be there with the Ice Warrior, so come find us and take a look for some ideas on what upgrade to fit on your vehicle next!

The Ice Warrior has had many upgrades in the last few months, and aside from some ongoing work and additional upgrades in the future, it’s pretty much finished. It looks like a Defender that could cope with pretty much anything, and we’d like to thank everyone for their support, from the companies that donated parts to the fans that followed the process of creating the ultimate Defender mascot.
Here’s a before and after showing the transformation:

There will be plenty of opportunities to see the Warrior out and about from now on, starting with The Honiton Show tomorrow, where the vehicle will be driving around the Show – so keep an eye out for that brand new chequerplate!
