We are delighted to report that members of the Brookwells team were present to help hand over the £3,200 raised by the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club’s charity RTV Event at Newnham Park in aid of St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon Aaron from our Plymouth Branch and the Ice Warrior were there to help other members from the CDLRC to hand-over the big cheque to staff.

Trevor Castle, Ken Brain, Tony Powell, Diana Mills, Jane and Gary Maunder also represented the CDLRC along with our Aaron, the Ice Warrior and two other Landies.

The annual event which this year ran on the 22-23rd of June raises money to help St Luke’s Hospice undertake a huge range of vital and tremendously caring tasks day in day out. “We have been caring for thousands of terminally ill patients for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the past 30 years and our passion and dedication to offer dignity and choice has never dwindled.” They say on their website, “Our vision is to provide the very best of care to those with a life limiting illness and support their families, whenever and wherever they need it.”

“With over £4.5million to raise each year to maintain our vital service to the local community we’re extremely grateful to all of our supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and employees who help us to keep providing free end of life care to those who need us most from across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.”

And long may this great event continue to help St Lukes preform their superb work on a daily basis. Roll on Newnham 2014!

Businesses big and small from across the UK have come together to support the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club’s annual charity RTV event, held at Newnham Park, Plympton, over the weekend of 22-23rd of June 2013.

And it’s a fitting tribute to the teams who also came from far and wide to take part in this great event which raised around £4,000 for St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth.

As well as the 24 teams of three’s entry fees there were other events such as a raffle with some great prizes up for grabs.

As a small gesture of thanks to all the people who gave up their free time to help make this event happen we asked a number of companies to donate various items to go into the marshalls raffle and we thank them for their generosity.

The weekend of the 22 and 23rd of June saw the return of the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club‘s annual Road Taxed Vehicle (RTV) charity event at Newnham Park which

By all accounts it was another roaring success. And here at Brookwells we are proud to be associated with this great event which not only raises money for a very deserving cause, but brings Landy Lovers together over two great days every year.

Club Chairman Pete Garlick was good enough to talk to us about the event, he said, “Although we haven’t worked out the final figures as yet after a rough look we estimate that we would be somewhere in the region of £4000 that was raised for St. Luke’s Hospice.

“This was the 8th year that we have run this event and this year was the biggest yet. We had 24 teams entered this year with each team consisting of 3 drivers. Their collective scores added together to determine the winners.”

“In addition to the 72 competitors there were marshals, officials scrutineers as well as families and friends with many camping in the 100 acre field at Newnham which lead to the usual light hearted atmosphere that this event generates.”

And the attendees weren’t competing on an empty stomach, Pete explained, “Gary and Chunk’s from Classic Catering had brought their snack wagons and mobile bar down from Wales and erected a marquee with table and chairs, this became the centre point of the camping field and was also the venue of Saturday evenings disco.”

The food went down a treat and the attendees danced the night away on Saturday evening, ready for the next day’s competition. “Sunday morning brought another breezy day,” Pete explained, “But importantly the rain held off which was an improvement on the showers from Saturday.”

Pete explained how the competitors enjoyed 20 sections over the course of 2 days, 10 at Newnham and 10 at Hemerdon with C and D’s team of David White, Ross Lillicrap and Simon Badge (above) emerging as overall winners. The ladies trophy was won by another Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club team comprising of Emma White, Jessica Jeffery and Leigh Jackson (below) and the Long Wheelbase Trophy by yet another CDLRC team of David Burley, Steve Johnson and Neil Jackson (bottom).

The Chairman was quick to praise companies that had clubbed together to donate items for the raffle. “We had a great number of prizes donated to our raffle donated by various very generous companies, top prize being a hand-made garden bench donated by Morwellham Garden Furniture this was won by Sarah Thomas and made its way back to Wales with her.”

Brookwells Land Rover parts supplies also provided marshals goody bags and made sure that everyone who had signed on to help over the weekend received took one home. It’s always fantastic to be able to do this as without our volunteer marshals and other officials we could not hold the event, as always they are very appreciated.”

Our Aaron has made a promotional video for the event which can be seen by clicking here.

We’re big fans of the CDLRC here at Brookwells and as well as sponsoring this event, we back their RTV championship. As a thanks for this, we received a special honour when our MD was awarded an honoury Vice-Presicency of the club at their Dinner and Dance back in January.

It’s a great club and this is one of many events they hold throughout the year, you don’t even have to have a Land Rover to join the club and get involved. Places are limited for this event so be sure to act fast to avoid disappointment.

To be kept up to date, keep checking the CDLRC’s website, their facebook page, or head over to our facebook event as there looks set to be a string of exciting updates leading upto the end of June, including rumours of a baking competition judged by the esteemed Tony Powell. But you didn’t hear anything from us, alright!!
