Our featured Land Rover Defender rebuild Andy the Landy is set to star in next month’s Land Rover Owner Magazine after the makeover has been completed after plenty of blood, sweat and probably even a few tears along the way!

We first started cataloguing the progression of Andy, a black (on the outside) and green (in some of the harder-to-reach places on the inside!) truck-cab Defender with a TD5 engine that looked pretty handsome on the outside but … you may have guessed, with a few gremlins on the inside.

Our intrepid Landy Lover James set about completely rebuilding the 90′ with the remit of “No more rust” which meant one hell of an overhaul. A brand spanking new built to order galvanised chassis from our supplier and dozens of parts later, Andy started to take shape into the fine specimen of a vehicle pictured here.

As you can imagine with a rebuild deadlines came and went September 2013 was the original target but we’re sure you agree all the hard work has been well worth it.

Brookwells man Dan (who probably spent more time in contact with James during the rebuild than James’ other half!) was on the scene of the official shoot to capture some sneaky peak pictures for us to use.

The all-singing-all-dancing snaps will be in next month’s edition of Land Rover Owner Magazine, out October 8

We’ve seen them and Andy looks majestic out on the open road so make sure you head out to your local shop – or wait patiently by the letter box – to find out more about James’ experience and see if you can work up the courage to create your very own dream Landy.

If you want to see some of the early stages of Andy’s rebuild simply type in “Defender rebuild” into the search bar on the top right of your browser and select the article you want from the bar on the right hand side.

We are delighted to announce that with your help we managed to raise over £250 by Ramping Up The Red for the British Heart Foundation.

Brookwells Ramp Up The Red for the British Heart Foundation

Our customers have surpassed themselves and we’ve been able to collect more than we had thought imaginable, yet again.

On Friday the 7th of February our master chefs got to work and cooked up another storm producing a fantastic array of delicious cakes.

Brookwells Ramp Up The Red for the British Heart Foundation

And our customers chipped in to buy them and raise some money for a very good cause in their droves.

Organiser Debbie was absolutely delighted to be able to raise such a handsome sum.

Debbie said: “The day went very well, Leu did excellent on her van run around Torbay and the South Hams, and the boys did well on the Exeter run.

Brookwells Ramp Up The Red for the British Heart Foundation

“Because it was only one day we were not expecting to raise a lot, we sent cakes to some of our customers such as Roger Young, Mike Harding, Exmoor Trim and some to our Plymouth branch.

“We had cakes and sweets on the counter in our branches as well as on our vans to our numerous trade customers across the South West.

“With all the money now collected I’m delighted to say that we managed to raise a fantastic £255.00! Didn’t we do well.”

Indeed, but as always we couldn’t have done it without our loyal customers so it’s a BIG THANK YOU From everyone at Brookwells to our customers for helping us to raise so much money again.

On the 7th of February 2014 we are going to Ramp Up The Red to try and raise some cash to help fight heart disease for the British Heart Foundation.

Our expert bakers will be cooking up a storm with a host of goodies available to pick up over the counters in our Bovey Tracey and Plymouth branches as you drop by to pick up your Land Rover parts.

Our sweet treats will also be going out on our vans so we can reach out to our hard-working trade customers to give them a little sugar rush to keep them going through the wind and rain as they fix the British public’s Land Rovers!

If you don’t know what Ramp Up The Red is, you may have seen the adverts on the telly promoting the event. You know, the one with the little girl painting her daddy’s face as they dress up as bright red dinosaurs to go out and raise some money.

Here’s what your donations can help to achieve.

Raise £50 and we could provide a special kit to measure tissue or blood samples as part of vital research in the lab.

Raise £86 and we could help train one of the British Heart Foundation’s promising PhD research students for a day to ensure the future of life-saving research.

Raise £126 and we’ll be able to buy a ‘Little Anne’ resuscitation training manikin, to be used in schools and workplaces to help people learn life-saving CPR.

Raise £231 and we’ll provide the proteins and amino acid ‘building blocks’ needed to help scientists build new working heart tissue, as part of a life-saving research project.

Raise a whopping £500 in red and we could pay for special training for a cardiac nurse to give them specific skills in helping young patients with heart disease.

We’re not expecting to raise a massive amount, we just want to do what we can to help this fantastic cause and we’d love your help.

It’s that time of year again everyone!

Lots of rain causing big, muddy puddles to splash through, time off work to go exploring in your Land Rover and a Brookwells gift voucher under the tree…Yes! It’s Christmas again!

Everyone at Brookwells is delighted to announce that we have raised over £800 wearing it pink for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

2013 was the third year we took part and our target was to match the combined total of £500 from the previous years. Armed with enthusiasm, a Land Rover Defender 130 sized plate of cakes and games to get involved in, we managed to raise more than we had thought in our wildest dreams.

We would like to thank everyone who donated and took part. From our trade customers, who were magnificent in their support (and seemingly relentless in their desire for baked goods!), to the numerous customers who walked through our doors and left with a cake and slightly lighter pockets!

Debbie, chief bucket rattler for Brookwells said, “I’m just so happy and delighted with how much we’ve managed to raise. It’s been fantastic. The only problem will be beating this total next year!”

Mike Harding won the Guess The Cake game and very generously handed his winnings back to the Breast Cancer Campaign – helping to push us toward the fantastic total of £800.

Once again the Brookwells team are Wearing it Pink in order to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Campaign’s efforts to help beat the “big C”. Over the last two years we’ve raised £500 and this year we’re aiming to match that number.

Brookwells Wear It Pink 2013 for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

This year we wanted to raise as much as possible and decided to wear it pink over three days, with the Wednesday crew shown above kicking it off, feather boas and all.

The aim of the three day drive was to reach as many of our trade and walk-in customers as possible and give them the opportunity to play some games, or buy some of the cakes, buns and treats created by our crack baking team. Not to mention letting our staff get involved.

Beating cancer is a cause very close to our hearts here at Brookwells and we’re extremely thankful for everyone who’s dropped in to donate, enjoyed a cake or bought a sticker. It’s fair to say the cakes have gone down superbly well! Today is the last day we’ll be wearing pink but if you can’t get into either our Plymouth or Bovey branches, fear not, we’re still taking donations all of next week.

Finishing with a flourish on Friday

The donations have been ticking along nicely so stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages – where we’ve created a special Brookwells logo to celebrate the event – for all the latest news.

Join forces with us to help raise money to aid the fight against breast cancer. This is the third year we’ve supported the Breast Cancer Campaign’s Wear It Pink day and this time we’re stepping it up a level.

Brookwells Wear It Pink 2013

Brookwells Wear It Pink 2013

This year we will be donning all shades of pink over three days in order to get the largest amount of people involved as possible.

Debbie, chief charity fundraiser and Brookwells rabble rouser said, “Our last two years have been very successful, we raised £155 in the first year and £345 in 2012. This year we want to top that and aim to get £500! So that everyone can join in we’re having three pink days on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of October.”

As well as wearing pink we will be selling pink cakes in a bid to reach our target. We’re already accepting donations in our Bovey Tracey and Plymouth branches and we will be sending our fleet of van drivers out to our numerous trade customers armed with cakes – which can be purchased for a small donation.

We’re also changing our logo on our various social network platforms to raise awareness of the fundraising for a period of time around the dates. You can take a look at our previous efforts here and marvel at Aaron’s get-up from last year!

If you want to find out more about what Wear It Pink raises money for, how you can get involved and what kind of events and causes it helps support, you can find their website by clicking here.

Land Rover Parts from Brookwells – now available in Cornwall

This comes as great news for Cornish Landy Lovers who have often bemoaned the lack of quality parts available in the county and are too far away from our Plymouth branch to drop in. The location of High Lanes Garage is shown on the above image by the red marker, and they now stock the fastest moving and most popular parts for a wide range of Land Rover models.

We have built up a strong working relationship with the owner Dave Jeffery and his wife Jess, and their knowledge and expertise have prompted us to take steps to help offer Land Rover enthusiasts across Cornwall a practical solution to the issue of availability.

“Drawing on Brookwell’s 30 years of experience we aim to offer Cornish Land Rover owners high quality, competitively priced parts and accessories from our centrally located and easy to find Perranporth garage.” Jess explains, “By carrying everyday Land Rover parts and accessories we are also able to provide a fitting service if required.”

Next week sees the 30th anniversary of Debbie joining Brookwells where she was just the second member to join the team. Now, three decades on there’s over 20 of us and we’re celebrating this fantastic landmark with her today as she’s booked some well earned holiday next week.

Owners, Carolyn and Jeff celebrate 30 years of Debbie at Brookwells

There were many hushed voices and secret shenanigans this morning, but when she came back from lunch, members of our Bovey Tracey branch gathered to surprise her with champagne, flowers, hugs and gifts to thank her for her years of service with a smile.

Here she is with the owners, Carolyn and Jeff, as we raised a toast with her at lunchtime today, well, all bar the van drivers. You can spot the office staff as they’re the ones with the plastic cups!

We think she’s a bit of a celebrity in the Landy universe, and there are thousands of Landy Lovers across the South West, the UK and the wider World who have been helped out by Deb and her vast Land Rover knowledge over the years.
