We are delighted to announce that our grand total for this year’s Breast Cancer Campaign’s “Wear It Pink” day is an impressive £345.00.

Home

Last year we raised £155.00 and have managed to better it to the tune of £190.00 through various fundraising efforts. Cakes, games and, of course, wearing pink helped us along the way. But we couldn’t have done it without the help of our generous customers and suppliers who chipped in very generously.

There’s still time to donate, just head over to the Breast Cancer Campaign’s website to help out.

So, it’s a big thank you to everyone who helped out and we’re looking forward to raising even more next year!

On the back of our success in raising over £300 for the Breast Cancer Campaign, the boys are back in town and four members of the Brookwells team are taking part in the annual Movember campaign.

Basking in the glory of Jeff’s world-famous facial foliage and Keith’s trusty ‘tache, young bucks, Aaron, Colin, Richard and Ryan are taking on the challenge of going from clean shaven to moustache haven in the 30 days of Movember.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about men’s health and more specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. And what better way to help the cause than joining the countless men across the world in a fun and functional way.

The Movember organisers explain, “Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.”

And it’s clearly a policy that’s working with over £184 Million raised worldwide since it started in 2004.

We will keep you updated on the progress (or lack of) of their mission, so keep checking back for more info.

The Devon and Cornwall Section of the Discovery Owners Club held their annual celebration of the Discovery’s birthday over the weekend of the 13th/14th of October.

Reaching the ripe old age of 23, the Land Rover Discovery is still going strong and boasts and impressive level of passion and ownership across the world for all four of the models.  And we love the Discovery here at Brookwells, your one-stop-shop for all things Land Rover.

Lee and Tim, organisers of the event, said, “Thank you for your kind support and the donated raffle/auction prize you gave us to support the Land Rover Discovery 23rd Birthday Weekend. With your help and support we managed to raise a massive £900 to be divided equally between RACE2RECOVERY  and Ellie’s Haven.”

We donated a pair of Wipac 100w 8″ Driving Lights for the Saturday evening social raffle which was attended by around 100 people. Congratulations to them on another great event and here’s to many happy returns for the Disco.

Brookwells backed Land Rover enthusiast Pete Garlick has completed an epic trek for charity, walking 150 miles in a week to raise funds for RACE2RECOVERY, Help For Heroes and Tedworth House.

The report on RACE2RECOVERY’s website states, “Pete Garlick from the Devon and Cornwall Club has just finished a mammoth walk to Tedworth House in Wiltshire from Plymouth. He battled the recent storms, floods and general inclement weather of southern Britain to raise money for the charity and is saluted by the team for his resolve, determination and generosity. Well done Pete!”

Pete completed his challenge back on the 1st of October 2012 and managed to raise £1,648.72 for this great cause. In a letter to Brookwells he said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance and support in sponsoring me a very generous £75.00 to assist with the unavoidable expenses that were required to complete my goal to raise funds for Help for Heroes’ Tedworth House.

“On completing my walk, we had a tour of Tedworth House, even though I already knew a lot about the work and assistance they give to our injured service personnel, I was overwhelmed by the dedication this charity shows and the different activities and re-training Tedworth House has to offer. Your money will help them to assist them in continuing their work and support.”

We would like to echo race2recovery’s sentiments and say a very big “Well done Pete!” A great story about a great feat for a fantastic cause!

Brookwells staff will be taking part in the Breast Cancer Campaign’s “Wear It Pink” day this Friday (26th October). Over £2.2 million was raised last year and we chipped in with £155, a total we are looking to beat this year. If you happen to pop into the shop over the next few days there will be cakes to buy, competitions to enter or you can simply donate over the counter at any time if you would like to help out.

And if you work in a garage we deliver to, why not request some delicious cakes made by our very own Debbie and Leu to be sent over the next time we pass by, much like our friends at Exmoor Trim have done and help us to raise some funds for a cause that is close to the hearts of everyone at Brookwells – defeating cancer.

Head over to www.wearitpink.co.uk to find our more about the campaign, what they do and what their goals are.

Over at 500px.com, the online photography community website, a Land Rover competition is afoot. Unfortunately it’s USA only, as they have teamed up with Land Rover USA specifically, but it still means that over the next month or so we’re going to have a wealth of submissions from talented photographers showcasing our favourite kind of car.

You can view the competition brief on this blog post but more important for us, you can view new submissions being tagged with the ‘Land Rover Story Challenge’ tag here.

We’ll be keeping watch, they have some truly talented photographers on that site so there are bound to be stunning images appearing.

Land Rover continue to offer increased options for personalisation and sophistication, and in 2013 they’ve added a range of optional extras for the Discovery 4.

Black design packs include gloss black grille and fender vents, door handles and mirror caps, badging and roof rails. They’re also offering more options for leather interiors, including twin-stitch detailing for fascia, doors and around instrument binnacles.

All this comes along with more interior and exterior colour choices, plus they are limiting the navigation choices to only the Premium options.

The Infotainment system has been upgraded and enhanced with extras such as independent touch-screen, WhiteFire cordless headphones and a range of speaker options delivering up to 825W.

You can read the whole spec in detail here.

The newest Bond film Skyfall hits the cinemas on the 26th of October, and a Land Rover Defender will have prime screen time in the opening sequence. Cars have always been a major part of James Bond, and they’re not sparing expense by the looks of it, with a Defender 110 Double Cab Pick Up driven by agent Eve (Naomie Harris).

So what do you think, will you be going to see Skyfall? The previous two Daniel Craig movies have been criticised for their dark and gritty feel, but Skyfall is apparently going to bring back a hint of fun – hopefully just enough to make the film entertaining as well as dramatic. This film also brings us up to date, whereas the previous two films focused on a Bond in his earlier years as 007.

Either way, the Land Rover Defender used in the movie is currently in Harrods window in London, complete with dents, muck and dust and a front mounted film camera. Certainly looks like they used the Defender for the stuff it’s good at, we’re looking forward to seeing how the opening sequence comes together.
