Superwinch Tiger Shark 9,500lb Winch
So after witnessing the awesome power of the Talon 9,500lb winch fitted to the Ice Warrior in my last blog I just had to buy a winch for my Defender as well.
After some thought I decided to fit the Tiger Shark 9,500lb winch which is part of their entry-level range which at just £250.88 + vat is a bit of a billy bargain.
They can be supplied in various from 9,500lb sizes right up to 17,500lb which would be large enough to just about pull a house down!
These have been designed for vehicle recovery use in the leisure market and would be more than adequate for my (hopefully) very occasional use.
I booked it into my good buddy’s workshop, first off we bolted the winch unit into place in the winch bumper followed by wiring it in which is actually far simpler than I first thought it would be, or perhaps he just made it look that way!
We also made a small bracket to mount the power cut off switch which is an essential fitment when fitting a winch to any vehicle and mounted it in the engine bay out of harm’s way.
So it’s first outing was on a weekend in Wales where it was called into duty recovering a Ford Ranger campervan which had a got a bit out of shape on a wet grassy slope, the Ranger had done really well getting around but All Terrain tyres on wet grass just don’t go…the winch did an awesome job of pulling the heavy Ranger up the hill and really didn’t feel it at all. I’m seriously impressed and reckon the 9,500lb capacity is more than adequate for normal vehicle recovery situations and would recommend it to anybody looking for a budget winch with the all-important parts back up you get from Superwinch.
